About Us
Peak Capital is a boutique private equity firm founded in 1999 to enable high touch, value investing in China by experienced partners and focuses on a full range of transactions for the Mid-Market in China, including growth capital, expansion financings, leveraged acquisitions, leveraged buy-outs, workouts, turnarounds, recapitalizations and restructurings.
The principals of Peak Capital are based in Hong Kong and Beijing and collectively have spent 30 years conducting business in China, during which time they gained substantial experience in Chinese private equity and financial markets as well as deep domain knowledge of Chinese business and politics.
Managing Directors
John J. Ying
Mr. Ying was a founding partner of two equity management firms, and is currently based in Hong Kong. Previously he was Managing Director—Asia of The Carlyle Group. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Ying was a Director of Investment Banking with Merrill Lynch & Co., at which he spent eleven years in New York and Hong Kong.
Mr. Ying was graduated with distinction from the Phillips Exeter Academy, with
honors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of
Science in Electrical Engineering and from the University of Pennsylvania with
both a Masters of Business Administration from the Wharton School and a Masters
of Arts in International Studies.
Davin A. Mackenzie
Mr. Mackenzie heads the Beijing office. Previously, he headed China for the International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. Prior to the IFC he worked for Mercer Management Consulting and the Bank of Boston in Taipei, Taiwan.
Mr. Mackenzie was graduated with honors from Dartmouth College with a Bachelors of Arts in Government and from the University of Pennsylvania with both a Masters of Business Administration from the Wharton School and a Masters of Arts in International Studies. He was selected for the World Bank Executive Development Program at the Harvard Business School.
